Everything began in 1983 with Thanasis Ktistakis and his brother Manolis, directly on the beach in Kalamaki. Since the 1990s, Thanasis and his wife Judith, together with their team at the main square in the centre of Kalamaki, have run the company; today they do so together with their adult daughters, Marianna and Melina Ktistaki.
The evolution of the company over more than four decades has been based on Greek hospitality, an interest in people from many different backgrounds and their individual life stories, and a committed focus on guests' wishes. What began as a two-person business, a small motorcycle rental company with just a few guest rooms, has grown into a professional company with an international team of 20 employees, more than 300 vehicles, and over 70 beds in 21 different accommodation units. Many guests, some of whom have become friends for many years, enjoy returning again and again, often several times a year. Each time there is something new, and they experience how ongoing investments make their holiday experience a little better every time.

1983 Founding of Kalamaki Rent Motors - motorcycle rental business with an office on the beach
1985 Relocation of the two-person business to Kalamaki's sandy main square
1988 Construction of Pension PANORAMA - 8 rooms (20 beds)
1989 Expansion of the motorcycle rental business to include rental cars - cars & bikes
1992 Restructuring and reorientation of the family business
1994 New legal regulations - give up or take the leap... WE TOOK THE LEAP!
1995 Expansion to 50 rental cars and a station at Heraklion Airport
2000 Preparations for the new FINIKAS APARTMENTS building
2002 Construction of FINIKAS Apartments and Studios
2003 Completion of FINIKAS II (26 beds in total)
2005 Launch of VILLAS ALEVROTA / own parking area at the airport
2007 Completion of the ALEVROTA villas and Pano SPITI / start of FINIKAS III
2008 Completion of FINIKAS III (wellness area plus 4 apartments / 16 beds)
2009 First season with wellness / health services
2011 Own office building on the square and a new workshop on the outskirts of Kalamaki
2014 Change of the company's legal form to an S.A.
2015 New Villa Dionysos
2016 Additional company location in the Heraklion industrial area
2020 Marianna & Melina officially entered Kalamaki Holidays after finishing their studies & work experience in other companies
2023 Celebration of 40 Years Kalamaki Holidays

KALAMAKI HOLIDAYS came through the two COVID years of 2020 and 2021 well, thanks to its many regular guests and friends. These years were marked by unpredictable events, not only in the tourism industry, and will certainly continue to have an impact for a long time.
During the winter months, from November to January, the whole team takes a short break and works 'part-time'. Naturally, pre-booked rental cars are still provided punctually at the airport as always, and emails are answered as quick as possible - just a little sloooower.
