Kamilari

Kamilari is a tranquil, typically Cretan village west of the Festos-Matala connecting road in the central south of the island of Crete. The village stretches over several hills, from which there are magnificent views of the wider area. Kamilari's winding little lanes are decorated with flower-filled gardens and invite you to stroll. Numerous guest rooms, apartments, and holiday homes can be discovered here. So far, the accommodations are found exclusively in small houses and guesthouses and vary greatly in standard. You can find almost everything, from simple rooms to modern villas. Holiday homes such as our natural-stone house 'PANO SPITI' in the middle of the village, with its own private swimming pool in the front garden, were among the first of their kind. 

In Kamilari there is a well-stocked supermarket with a butcher, some souvenir shops, and a very good silversmith and goldsmith. From the main square by the church and municipal office over to the second village square, there are several kafenions where, in addition to holidaymakers, mainly local men sit and discuss current political issues or the latest village gossip. Visitors are welcome here, women as well as men. From our Villas ALEVROTA and Villa DIONYSOS it is only a 5-10 minute walk to get here. 
In recent years, much has been restored and renovated in a traditional style. Some of the many regular guests, mostly EU citizens, have built a new or second home here, because of the special hospitality of the people of Kamilari. 

And of course you can also eat very well in Kamilari. In addition to an excellent pizzeria - with frog music - there are at least 4 tavernas to choose from. 

Every year on 6 August, the village celebrates the name day of the patron saint of the village church. The whole village, friends, and relatives from surrounding villages come together, and with live Cretan music, plenty of wine, and singing, people dance and celebrate late into the night.
